Nathan Nandala-Mafabi is a Ugandan politician, economist, lawyer, accountant, and teacher, widely respected for his leadership, integrity, and commitment to accountability. Born on January 17, 1966, in Busamaga, Sironko district, he has risen to become one of Uganda’s most prominent opposition figures. A long-serving Member of Parliament since 2001, he recently served as the Leader of Opposition in Parliament under the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC). Beyond politics, he is a highly qualified professional with credentials in economics, law, statistics, accountancy, and education, making him one of the most versatile leaders in Uganda’s political and professional landscape.

His career reflects a blend of political leadership and professional excellence. In Parliament, Nandala-Mafabi has chaired key committees, including the Public Accounts Committee and the National Economy Committee, where he spearheaded reforms that strengthened financial oversight and accountability. Internationally, he represented Uganda in forums on economic management and public accountability, formulating best practices for Public Accounts Committees across Africa. His professional achievements extend into consultancy and financial management, where he has served as an auditor, financial consultant, and project manager for multinational organizations, including the World Bank.
Beyond politics and professional consultancy, Nandala-Mafabi has demonstrated strong grassroots leadership. As Chairman of the Bugisu Cooperative Union, he successfully turned around a debt-ridden institution, clearing liabilities of over UGX 1.7 billion and restoring profitability to farmers through fair coffee prices and revitalized cooperative programs. Within the FDC, he is a founder member and long-time Deputy Treasurer who has played a pivotal role in mobilization, party financing, and grassroots organization, particularly in Eastern Uganda. His career embodies resilience, service, and a vision for accountable governance in Uganda.
